St. Edward's Church Building

St. Edward's church building originally stood in Playland Park on Broadway. It was dedicated in 1964 as the Peaceful Valley Chapel and was located on one of the few remaining sections of the Alamo Madre Acequia built around 1720 by Spanish Missionaries to bring life-giving water to a hostile wilderness. The church was dedicated to everyone seeking a moment of peaceful meditation in a hectic world. When one entered, a taped narration of the "Sermon on the Mount" played in the background. The building was moved to its current location on the cornere of Santa Gertrudis and Anacacho in the mid 1980's.

St. Edward's Marble Altar

St. Edward's prides itself in the beautiful, Italian marble altar it acquired from the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica's Monastery in San Antonio.

The altar contains the holy relics of St. Severianus, Bishop of Scythopolis, who was martyred in 452 AD.

St. Edward's Shrine

The shrine is dedicated to Our Lady of Grace and stands on the church grounds. It is a place for anyone who wishes to have a moment of contemplation and prayer. Processions are made from the shrine to the church prior to Mass on special feast days.

Stations of the Cross

The beautiful Stations of the Cross that adorn St. Edward's were acquired from the Fort Sam Houston chapel in San Antonio.

The Church Organ

The three manual Baldwin electric organ came from San Fernando Cathedral. Our organ adds beauty and dignity to our worship during the Solemn Sung Mass every Sunday morning. We are currently accepting donations through our Organ Appeal to maintain this integral part of our worship.
